Career in Teaching
I have been teaching for more years than I care to say but what I do want to say is that this journey is one that has left me with many wonderful memories, friends and life lessons.I want to express to my fellow teachers that,this is my experience alone,many might have had different experiences,but this is my account.
I first started teaching in a brick and mortar language academy and I did change schools from time to time based solely on how close I could be to my kids.I was a single mom with 2 kids so I needed to be there for them, which was hard considering all of these academies could only offer after school hours. This went on for a few years , until finally I got the opportunity to work in a school for children that wanted to be taught English only . I got a teaching assistant job and then eventually I was promoted to having my own classroom. I loved it there!The kids were amazing and I can't say enough about my colleagues! I made best friends for life!I thought,this is where I'm going to stay till I retire.
Anything I needed,Google was my go to I ended up working for some of the biggest ESL companies in Asia,Dada,TAL,Itutor,Cambly,Pathways,and I was fully booked from 7 am to 4 pm.The only thing was that I didn't like what I was teaching.I felt the material wasn't really giving students what they really needed.It was either too easy or too difficult.So I kind of felt like I was short changing my beloved students.Not only that but,working for these companies meant that I wasn't truly independent.I couldn't change my hours or take a day off if I wanted or needed.This is when my lovely Emma told me about Amazing Talker. Google became my religion!
How Amazing Talker Changed Everything
This was a game changer!I started slowly transitioning to Amazing Talker full-time.Emma was not only my friend but mentor on the platform.She guided me on what I should do to get myself popular on the platform.I absolutely loved it from day one!I used my own material,I assessed the students, I was actually teaching what I knew my students needed.And the amazing thing was that, I was totally independent with how much and when I wanted to work.Never again having to beg for a few hours off or for a vacation!
Online Beginnings
Life has a funny way of taking it's own course though. I met up with Emma, that was my boss in one of the academies that I worked for. I was always so fond of her , she was someone I clicked with from day one. She told me that she has started working online with a Chinese company and is making a very good living working from home. I thought,wow! Working from home, making much more than I could ever make working anywhere else and during the time my kids would be at school! I researched everything there was to research and to make a long story short, I made the leap,quit my job and set up shop at home.I was nervous,excited and a little scared considering I'm not a techie.
Foremost,I can't even begin to tell you about the students!I have met some of the most amazing people, so sweet and interesting to talk to.I feel like I couldn't be luckier to have the opportunity to travel, virtually,and meet people all around the world.I have had students from east to west,north and south.
I am now in a position where I can do things that I never really had the means to do.I travel more, spend more quality time with my family,I even have taken up horse riding!Life really does begin after 40!
